INTRODUCTION & BACKGROUND:
Participants will spend the program in a Cultural Centre at the town of Kežmarok. It is an old town, a centre of Slovak education from the 18th century. It is situated at the foot of the High Tatras Mountains (the highest peak is 2634 meters above the sea level; we have 21 peaks higher than 2.000 m).

The PEATS placement will involve practicing:

3 days – sewn-lace (point lace)

1 day – gatra

3 days – macramé

3 days – bobbin lace

3 days – crochet

1 day – Slovak language lessons

(Thursday 22nd August – day off – day before leaving)

Accommodation

Kežmarok – participants will stay in a family house.

Food

Breakfast and lunch will be prepared by yourselves (shared kitchen fridge is stocked every morning).

Weekends     :  Saturdays Trips (Cultural Days) will be mostly on Saturdays. We can choose some of them or we can add something, if you want but the daily program sometimes depends on weather, etc. We will agree our program for Saturdays (we can change it to be on Sunday or Friday sometimes), when you arrive.

Sundays – usually will be your days off (also depends on our agreement) – sleeping, sun bathing, swimming etc.

Working hours:   9 a.m. to 3-4 p.m. with a lunch break (Monday – Friday).

After working time: Sometimes arranged together. Everything depends on our mutual agreement. Helpers can show you places visited by Slovak young people. The program of your leisure time can be arranged by yourselves – discos etc.

Cultural days : The Dunajec River raft (boat) trip; towns – Kežmarok [castle and wooden church (UNESCO World Heritage)]; Poprad; Levoča – St Jacob church (UNESCO World Heritage); Walking around Štrbské Pleso (Tarn) in the High Tatras.
