Slovakia – Traditional Crafts & Creativity in a Village Museum

This placements is based in the village of Lisov, in Central South Slovakia,  stretching out on the southernmost foothills of the Štiavnické hills. The village museum of Lišov was registered with the patrimony of the state in 2009. In 2015, under new management they embarked on a development program based on a research framework which identified:

1)            Researching and reconstructing one of the local cave houses; there are 55 & 300 wine cellars.

2)            Developing an international mask museum.

3)            Training locals and visitors in a range of traditional skills.

4)            Focusing on the Celtic tribes who inhabited nowadays Slovakia and resisted the Romans.

5)            The mysterious ‘Fossa Giganteum’, a Neolithic wall from the Danube almost to Poland, extending for over 300 kilometres and passing close by the village.

6)            Offer a meeting place and outlet for local sustainable crafts and food

7)            Following the tradition of local artist Fero Liptak, offer a creative space for applied art.

4.6.  TUESDAY – Presentation of our work in the Museum and in the village, visiting cave houses and getting to know the village, meal together, wine tasting.

5.6. WEDNESDAY- Visit to exhibition and Museum in Brhlovce cave house village for a presentation weaving.

6.6. THURSDAY – Introduction into clay building – restoration of clay oven.

7.6. – FRIDAY – Introduction into clay building – restoration of Celtic round house and stone building.

13.6. – THURSDAY – Workshop with Fero and Slavka Liptak artist, film maker, theatre building.

Accommodation (shared rooms 2-3) is in a large village house on a self-catering basis, with beautiful yard.

Funding

The Turing grant will cover accommodation, food (3 meals a day), return, flights, insurance, transport to site and supervision. Participants will have to make sure they have their EHI or GHI card and budget for personal purchases and excursions.
